Ian O'Neill ~ Wearer of many hats

THIS week in the news: Sony announced the a5100 mirrorless camera, while Leica unveiled the M-P digital rangefinder camera. Kodak has rung the death knell of BW400CN film. Hasselblad announced the new 200-Megapixel H5D-200c Multi-Shot medium format camera. Barnes & Noble and Samsung released the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook.

Kodak drops BW400CN film. Stock should last four months. Stock up film buffs.

He was the poster boy for comedy and tragedy. Though comedy always won out – until yesterday.

He had his struggles and we delighted in his wins. The funny was stronger than any drug or alcohol addiction. The funny kicked ass through heart surgery. What could possibly be strong enough to beat the guy with the best defense – the comedy offense?

Depression.

A mental disorder that I’ve been told to ‘just get over’.

Did Robin Williams foresee the impact his death would have? Wouldn’t that be ‘ironical’. Can we finally see depression for what it is? A serious disorder that is blind to station; it hurts anyone it touches.

Reach out to the people you love and tell them that you’re hurting. There is no stigma. There is help.

Safe journey Mr. Williams.

Still use and love the Nikon EM. It was my first so, I’m not ready to let go of it.

Took this photo in 2001 at Killbear Provincial Park. One of the last places in Canada where the Massasauga rattlesnake can still be found. Keep up the great work.

Doc Ock (Rule 63) by AtlAggie on Flickr.

That’s not a genderbent Doc Ock cosplay, but a Carolyn Trainer/Doc Ock II cosplay! Look her up; she took over when Otto got killed during the Clone Saga and later was instrumental in bringing him back to life (with the help of Stunner and a Magic Ninja Cult).
She’s known as Lady Octopus these days… though, with Otto dead again (most likely, now that Superior Spider-Man’s over), I can but hope that she’ll come back and retake the “Doctor Octopus” mantle. I’m not holding my breath, though.

Awesome!

Spider-Man: Responsible
When I was a kid, I identified with Spider-Man because backflips are cool and octopus men need to be punched.
When I was a teenager, I identified with Spider-Man because I knew how it felt to be the lonely, awkward outsider who never manages to fit in.
Now that I am grown and I have my own family, I identify with Spider-Man because I’m familiar with the burden of responsibility and sometimes having to do things that you don’t want to, simply because they need to be done.
Next week: Pokemon!
